Kudos to Rachel Halverson for presenting her research last week at the 2026 North Central Council of Latin Americanists Conference! Her research, titled “Corrective Feedback vs. Native Input in the Development of Spanish Voiceless Stops,” was directed by Dr. Martín Gómez and examines how second-language Spanish pronunciation develops in two different learning contexts: the advanced Spanish classroom and language immersion abroad.

Yesterday we welcomed Keiko Morikawa from the Japan Outreach Initiative to our campus.

Students got a study break in the library to gather, play games, make origami, and try on Yukata summer robes, traditionally worn at summer festivals in Japan.

Later, Keiko led a Japanese calligraphy workshop at the Language Resource Center, and students learned a series of brushstrokes before creating a work of art to take home.

Thank you Keiko and all who participated in these events!

This past summer, our faculty led our first Medical Spanish Immersion program in Ecuador, and students from a range of disciplines combined Spanish language immersion, health care observation, and cultural experiences. We are excited to be offering this program again next summer!

All In Wisconsin featured the program in their latest publication, so you can read more about it. Look for the story "A Deeper Understanding" in the linktree in our page bio.
