I am thrilled to repost something from one of our former undergrad Students
The past couple of months have been extremely busy, and I wanted to share some exciting updates about my progress toward earning a PhD in Cancer Biology.
I had the honor of speaking at the Rogel Cancer Center’s annual One Day Closer event as the patient keynote. This event is designed to introduce high school students to careers in cancer care and research. Along with delivering a keynote speech, I led an activity where I showed students the common laboratory equipment we use in cancer research labs. It was a rewarding experience that reinforced my passion for both research and inspiring future scientists.
I'm also thrilled to share that I've recently passed my candidacy exam, which allows me to officially move on to the next phase of my PhD program as a doctoral candidate.This is a significant milestone! Moving forward, I'll be focusing my research on understanding how epigenetic and metabolic factors contribute to pediatric brain cancers.
A heartfelt thank you to my mentors, colleagues, and everyone who has supported me on this journey. Your guidance and encouragement have been invaluable.

Today I was blessed with a visitor at my office. This wonderful young lady graduated from our Microbiology undergraduate program and then our Grad program 9 years ago. She came in to the University as an Education Major and was very upset that she was put into a Microbiology 100 level course her Freshman year. Science was not her Deal!! Look at her now! I spent over an hour and half visiting with her today as she came to campus for our Career Day! (I also had the honor 9 years ago as my side hustle was a bartender so I was hired to bartend for her wedding) This type of afternoon does my Momma heart so much good! I am feeling very blessed today! Hoping to see her again at the next Career Fair! 🙂Please All of you! Come back and visit! We Love hearing how you are Thriving in this Busy World we live in!
