The Eagle has landed at UWL! 🦅

Today, we unveiled a striking new campus landmark: a 10-foot stainless steel “Eagle L” outside the Recreational Eagle Center!

Created by artist and alumnus Luke Achterberg and made possible by the vision and generosity of alumnus Joe Laux, the sculpture stands as a tribute to UWL and our high-flying Eagle athletic teams. More than an art piece, it is a place to gather, make memories and celebrate what it means to be an Eagle.

Out of nearly 500 student nominations, six outstanding instructors have been chosen as recipients of the 2026 Eagle Teaching Excellence Award! 🏆

Next up in our series is computer science and computer engineering professor Dipankar Mitra. 👏

Dipankar enjoys helping students connect classroom learning to the technologies and innovations shaping the world around them.

🗣️ "Mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in research and hands-on design activities is particularly rewarding because I get to watch them grow into independent thinkers and problem-solvers. I also enjoy creating an engaging classroom environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, exploring ideas and developing curiosity about technology and innovation."

Aaron's favorite part of teaching is helping students learn how to ask thoughtful questions, not just about business communication, but about the world around them.

Hundreds of items found second lives during UWL’s Reduce, Reuse, Reimagine Campus Move-Out program! 🛋️ 🪑

This year alone, 525 items were collected and 86.5% were rehomed, showing how campus sustainability efforts are turning “move-out waste” into community reuse. Since launching in spring 2024 in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of the Greater La Crosse Region (La Crosse Habitat), the program has diverted 1,652 items from dumpsters! ♻️
