Here are some pics from our First Annual Sport Networking Night! It was such an amazing event, we got to hear from five professionals with very different experiences and advice.

Our fifth panelist is Jen Corcoran! She is in her second year as Branch Director for the La Crosse Area Family YMCA where she oversees 9 full-time program directors, manages the overall operations of the Houser branch in Onalaska, and builds relationships with members and families of the Y. Corcoran began at the Y in 2009 as the Youth Sports & Family Director and was promoted to Director of Operations in 2014. She previously worked for the Milwaukee Brewers as a Merchandise and Branding Graduate Intern. Corcoran Graduated from UWL with a bachelor’s degree in Recreation Management in 2008 and a masters in Sport Administration in 2009. During her time at UWL she worked as a Sports Event Coordinator for the La Crosse Area Sports Commission and as an Intramural Graduate Assistant for UWL Rec Sports.

Excited to have her on the panel and hear more about her experience in non-profit sports!

Introducing our fourth panelist, John Stangler. John is in his eighth year as the Director of Buildings and Grounds and Safety Coordinator for Pewaukee School District. Prior to making the move to Pewaukee, John spent five years in Oconomowoc Area School District as the district’s Operations Supervisor, and two years in the Operations and Public Relations departments of the Minnesota Vikings. John is currently serving as the Vice President of Wisconsin School Safety Coordinators Association (WSSCA) and will serve as the President of WSSSCA for the 2019-20 school year.
John earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sport Science – Sport Management with a concentration in coaching competitive athletics, and a Masters in Exercise and Sport Science – Sport Administration from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse. John also received his Wisconsin Association of School Business Officials (WASBO) Facilities Certification in 2010 and his Certified School Risk Management (CSRM) Certification in 2012. In addition, John has his Building Operator Certification Level 1, and received his School Safety & Security Coordinator Certification from WSCCA in 2014. In 2017, John was awarded WASBO Facility Manager of the Year. He also works as a Statistician/Spotter for NFL and NCAA football games with a variety of national networks.

Our third panelist is John Fanta, Vice President of two Northwoods Teams, the Green Bay Booyah and the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters. Fanta, the 2016 Northwoods League Executive of the Year, is in the midst of his 12th season in the Northwoods League. In July of 2018, he was promoted to Vice President of both teams after serving five seasons as General Manager of the Rafters. While with the Rafters, he oversaw the first team in the Northwoods League's 24 year history to win 52 games in a season in 2017. Fanta joined the Rafters as Assistant GM prior to the teams inaugural season in 2010, after spending two summers as the ticket sales intern for the La Crosse Loggers. He is a 2009 graduate of UWL where he earned his bachelors degree in Sport Management and Business Administration.

Our second panelist is Sara Quinnell, the Assistant Commissioner of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) – a NCAA Division III conference. Quinnell has been with the UMAC for three years and previously worked as the Sports Information Director at St. Catherine University for four years. She has also worked in various roles for Macalaster College and the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC). Quinnell is involved in several national committees and serves on the Division III Men’s Soccer North Regional Advisory Committee. She has a master’s degree from the University of Minnesota and earned her undergraduate degree from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota where she was a four-year member of the women’s hockey team.

With so many experiences in collegiate athletics, Sara will be a great addition to our panel!

Introducing our first of SIX panelists for our First Annual Sport Networking Night on March 1st!

Kyle Flanagan is the Director of Marketing and Business Development for Wisconsin Sports Services (WSS). Kyle joined WSS in October 2016 after previously working as the Director of Business Development for the Madison Capitals (USHL), and he has also worked as an assistant in the athletic departments at La Crosse Logan HS and Dominican (Whitefish Bay) HS. Kyle earned his bachelor's degree in Sport Management from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, and his master's degree in Sport Management with an emphasis in Athletic Administration from Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee. As the Director of Marketing and Business Development, Kyle oversees all revenue generating activities within the company. Such as corporate sponsors, grants, and new and current company-based programs. Kyle is also the Director of the Midwest Wrestling Tour, and the Director of Sales in Wisconsin for Trusted Coaches. In addition, Kyle also manages the companies many social media platforms and websites, which are a very important towards the growth of the brand, but also creating new and unique sponsorship elements.

We are very excited to have Kyle on our panel and learn from all of his experiences!

Lastly is El Presidente, Charlie Raethke! A junior from Pepin, WI, this is his 3rd year on the SMA Board and will be his first as President. He loves to travel, eat, and enjoy all life has to offer with his friends! In the next year he's excited to move SMA forward and work with the new board toward its goals!
