Taylor studied abroad in Mexico! 🇲🇽

Read about her time there below:

My name is Taylor! I’m currently studying Spanish at UWL and will be heading to Viterbo next year to pursue my master’s in nursing. I had the incredible opportunity to study abroad in Mexico at UDLAP for an academic year through a direct enroll program. My first semester focused on Spanish for exchange students, and in my second semester I took regular university courses like translation studies, grammar, and history. I lived in Cholula, Puebla, a beautiful city with views of an active volcano and a stunning church perched on a hill. The weather was amazing year-round, the cost of living was surprisingly affordable, and the food was absolutely delicious. Most of all, I loved trying new things and meeting friends from all over the world. If you’re even thinking about studying abroad, take the leap. You won’t regret it!

Congratulations NJ!

Maria studied abroad in Spain! 🇪🇸

Hear about her time there below:

Hello, my name is Maria, and I am an exercise sport science major! I am currently studying abroad in Seville, Spain, through the Spanish American Institute of International Education (SAIIE). The city is historic, vibrant, and social. It is a perfect environment for city life while still giving you a sense of home. The required course at SAIIE, ART301, is a course where the city of Seville is the classroom. Each class, we walk around the city, or to different monuments and learn the history behind it. I am taking three courses through the Universidad de Seville. Spanish Cuisine is a course that teaches you about the history and techniques for Spanish cooking, it also includes three cooking classes. Wine in Spain is a class that teaches you about the history and different types of wine, this course includes wine tastings. The Theory and Practice of Flamenco exposes you to the history, art, and practice of flamenco dancing, this course can transfer as ESS104 or ESS100! Lastly, I am taking ESS328 (Field Experience) through SAIIE. Every week I go to BeFit, which is a physical therapy practice, and I am able to shadowl for a few hours. It is very interesting to learn about and observe the differences of how they practice PT in different countries. This has been very surprising to me because it is very different from how we practice PT in the states. Overall, I would recommend this program and location to anyone looking to study abroad, it has truly been the best two months. I have been able to travel around a lot, and have made so many new friends and memories that will last a lifetime!

Karlie studied abroad in Germany! 🇩🇪

Hear about her time there below:

Hi! My name is Karlie, and I recently studied abroad in Berlin, Germany for J-term of 2026 through World Strides. I am studying Business Management and Marketing with a minor in Communication. The class I took was a marketing elective called Strategy and Brand Management in the Brewing Industry. We learned a ton about the brewing industry and how it has been shaped by the culture surrounding it. We also toured a brewery, learned how beer is made, and participated in a tasting of 3 different beers. All of the professors were super knowledgeable and helpful. Through the program, I learned a ton about the history and culture of Berlin through different tours and experiences. The history of Berlin has shaped the culture of the country today drastically, and it was so cool to see it in action! Even with the history of division and political change, creativity, diversity, and expressiveness showed through in the city. I was also so surprised with how friendly the locals Berlin were! Before traveling abroad, I learned a lot about different cultures ways of communicating, and people in Berlin are very direct which can come off as cold or unfriendly. But while the Germans I interacted with were more reserved, they had a very intentional friendliness that I very much appreciated as I learned to navigate a new culture. For any student thinking about studying abroad, I say go for it! While this trip was very out of my comfort zone, I grew so much and found a love for exploring new places on my own. My study abroad experience was such an awesome opportunity, and I would recommend it to anyone!

Emma studied abroad in Australia! 🇦🇺

Hear about her time there below:

Hello! My name is Emma, and I am a Biology major on exchange in Melbourne, Australia. I am halfway through my semester abroad and have already had so many unforgettable memories. Choosing to study abroad consistently presents opportunities for me to push myself outside of my comfort zone and grow in a completely new environment. When I started this degree, I never put much thought into studying abroad, because it honestly sounded like a lot of logistics, super expensive, and I didn’t see why I should leave a place/the people I love. With that being said, I wouldn’t trade this experience for the world (and I’m only halfway through!). I’ve met so many people from all over, gone places I never thought I would get to go, and learned things I never would have learned back home. It’s not easy, it’s not perfect, but it is SO worth it. If you are even slightly interested in studying abroad, make it happen!!! My advice: go alone, book the flight, and find comfort in the uncomfortable.

Avery studied abroad in Italy! 🇮🇹

Hear about her time there below:

Hello! My name is Avery, and I am studying Business Management with a minor in Leadership Development at UWL. I studied abroad during the winter term in Milan, Italy, at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore through a direct-enroll partnership program that UWL offers with several universities around the world. These partnerships allow students to enroll directly at host institutions for a semester, academic year, or short-term program. While abroad, I took one course, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, since the program was only two weeks long. It was a great experience because I met many other international students, collaborated with them on our final presentation, and traveled together on weekends. The small class size made it easy to get to know each other and learn about different backgrounds and perspectives. One thing that surprised me about Italy was that the weather in January was still fairly cold, pretty similar to Wisconsin, when I had expected it to be warmer. It was also amazing to see so many high-end fashion stores and designer brands, since Milan is known as a global fashion capital. My biggest recommendation is to say yes: say yes to meeting new people, trying new things, and fully experiencing the culture around you. Studying abroad pushes you out of your comfort zone in the best possible way. Take in every moment, because you’ll miss it as soon as you leave!
