Graduate school opportunity: MS in I/O Psychology
The Department of Psychological Sciences at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky is seeking applicants to its M.S. in Psychology – Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology concentration (https://www.wku.edu/psychological-sciences/grad/io/index.php), one of the Top Ten Master’s in I/O Psychology programs in the U.S. according to the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP; SIOP Ranked Top Programs). The program is a two-year, 45 hour graduate program designed for students seeking preparation as M.S. psychologists in business, industry, service organizations, consulting firms, or government agencies. The objective of the concentration is the development of marketable skills in the areas of test construction and validation, personnel selection and placement, performance appraisal, and training. Work motivation, job satisfaction, and organizational development techniques are also studied. The development of applied skills is achieved through the integration of practical experience and formal course work. Many graduates of the program have gone on to lucrative careers in Fortune 500 companies and government, including Dollar General, UPS, and Louisville Metro. In addition, students who have sought preparation for Ph.D. programs in Industrial/Organizational psychology have been accepted to prestigious doctoral programs across the country.
The I/O psychology concentration program adheres to a scientist-practitioner model of training. Students learn to evaluate and apply theory and research to advance practical, data driven solutions in assisting organizations and their employees. The curriculum is designed to advance graduate students’ quantitative and methodological skills, to bolster knowledge in the core areas of I/O psychology, and to foster professional development. Throughout our program, students gain the practical and applied skills necessary to obtain competitive positions in industry, government, and consulting. In addition, students may obtain a graduate certificate in Scientific Data Analytics, which offers concentrations in data mining and analysis. In the last 5 years, 100% of our students received financial support through assistantships and/or tuition waivers.
