EXTREME HEAT WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM FRIDAY MORNING [10/02/26] THROUGH
WEDNESDAY EVENING [10/7/26]:

* WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions with high temperatures on the hottest days ranging from around 90 near the coast to the upper 90s to upper 100s for the valleys possible. Low temperatures for coastal areas into the western valleys will warm into the lower to mid 70s during the weekend, with those warm overnight temperatures continuing for next week.

*WHERE...San Diego County Coastal Areas, San Diego County Valleys.

* WHEN...From Friday morning, October 2nd through Wednesday evening, October 7th.

* IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during
extreme heat events.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A long-duration heat wave is expected to develop late this week and continue through much of next week into the following weekend with Moderate or greater HeatRisk for the coast and valleys and Major to Extreme HeatRisk for inland coastal areas into the western valleys.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

🔱Drink plenty of fluids,
🔱Stay in an air-conditioned OR cool room if possible.
🔱Stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

New Campus Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training Academy dates available.
CERT membership requires graduation from a 25-hour CERT Basic Training Academy. All CERT trainings are provided free of charge for UC San Diego faculty, staff, and students

CERT training teaches participants how to:

🔱Prepare for emergencies and disasters
🔱Provide basic disaster medical care and triage
🔱Perform light search and rescue
🔱Suppress small fires safely
🔱Work effectively within organized response teams

Next CERT Academy
September 22–24, 2026
8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day
Campus Service Complex, Building D, Training Room (map)
Lunch provided
Registration required: Visit Campus Emergency Response Team (CERT) Academy on UC Learning Center.

🌞The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory is issued for the San Diego Coasts for temperatures in the 90s beginning at 10:00 a.m. today 8/25/26- Friday 8/28/26 8:00 p.m.
⁃ Stay inside or in shaded areas
- Drink plenty of water
- If you feel sick from the heat, call 9-1-1
- Never leave young children or pets alone in vehicles

BTS of our Emergency Management Tabletop Exercise with over 20 campus partners, including Deans of the Colleges, UC San Diego Police, ResLife offices, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs and Campus Life, University Centers. Recreation, Facilities Management, RRSS, EH&S, Transportation, Libraries, CAPS, and Student Health. Thank you to all of our participants; players and observers. We also had evaluations from UC San Diego Health, SDSU, and CSU San Marcos. The Tabletop Exercise connected many resources and generated great discussions that will be incorporated into our emergency planning and protocols.

🔱🌞Appreciation post for the UC San Diego Police Department team for their version of National Night Out, Grillin' n Chillin' for our VC OMCP partners.

Thank you for the great conversations, delicious food and the opportunity to showcase our Campus Emergency Response Team program, Hands-Only CPR and always great to see the UCSD Employee Wellness team too.

Thank you to our partners and participants at Rya Pepper Canyon West Res Life for having us out for a summer Great ShakeOut and Gear Up event. We can't wait for the October 15th Great ShakeOut event at Marshall Field. Our participants learned life-saving skills and resources to know what to do following an earthquake or disaster with first aid, fire extinguisher, and bystander hands-only CPR training. Thank you to Diego and UC San Diego Police Department for providing support too!

While it's hot outside, we are teaching folks how to put fires out. Environment, Health , and Safety; and Emergency Management offer fire extinguisher training for our campus partners. Thank you to the Student Health and Wellness team for having us 🧯🌬🔥
