🚨FREE CONCERT ALERT🚨

Blacktronika: Afrofuturism in Electronic Music (MUS 19R) honors the innovators of color who have been instrumental in the advancement of electronic music. Since the course is synchronous but remote across all UC campuses, we present two dance events each quarter as a physical extension of the classroom. These events build community through movement and, most importantly, allow the music discussed in class to be experienced as it should be: in context, collectively, and on a proper sound system in UC San Diego Department of Music’s Experimental Theater. Music is presented by world-renowned producer/DJ Professor King Britt alongside special guests.

“We are proud to partner with Future is Color, a creative and cultural practice designing infrastructure for community. Together we will create a safe space for hearts to beat as one”

All ages. Everyone is welcome.

There are many artistic events happening this fall, including our WEDS@7 series, presenting 'Cassandra' with Distinguished Professor and Grammy-nominated soprano Susan Narucki!

In this class, you will learn about the art of DJing using both analog and digital gear. The course will cover the fundamental concepts involved in spinning records, from the equipment and media to music structure and beatmatching by ear. The course culminates with a final performance, where the students showcase their newly acquired skills.

Don't miss the season premiere of the UC San Diego Department of Music's 60th Anniversary!

Percussionist and UC San Diego professor of over 35 years, Steven Schick, will perform a series of work with renowned pianist Cory Smythe. Composers include Anthony Braxton, Roger Reynolds, and Karlheinz Stockhausen. They will be joined by alumnus David Aguila, who will be doing sound design.

Say hello to our new undergrads! 👋

We had so much fun yesterday meeting our incoming undergraduate students during their orientation. 😁 We played games, took a tour around the building, and learned that most of our newbies prefer ice cream cones 🍦instead of cups 🍨. Can't wait to see what lies in store for them!
