On April 20th, Torrey Honors College hosted a Biola faculty Q&A panel, bringing to a conclusion the Youtube lecture series, “Through the Lens of K-Drama.” Featuring Torrey’s Dr. Jane Kim, Dr. Laurie Wilson, and Dr. Christie George, the panelists discussed viewer culture and good taste, the form of serialized content, and art’s capacity for social and spiritual impact in the context of K-Dramas. Following the panel, students from this semester’s Korean Literature MicroTorrey presented an exhibit featuring activity booths that allowed guests to interact with Korean literature and food! Thanks to the hard work of our faculty and students, this event brought a taste of Korean culture and its global influence to campus, reflecting new connections between Korean artistry, modern media, and life and faith.

Torrey Honors College introduced a new course to students this semester: the Jane Austen MetaTorrey! Covering Austen literature outside of the normal Torrey curriculum, this elective featured works from Northanger Abbey to Emma. As a special project for this class, this group of students collaborated on and hosted a regency ball last Wednesday to learn the cultural and relational nuances of Austen’s time, covering four different aspects of the culture: manners/etiquette, dance, cards, and supper. They put together an elegant evening that consisted of assigned social classes to the guests, regency era ballroom dancing, and a delicious supper. As they engaged with beautiful readings and immersive first-hand experiences, these Austen MetaTorrey students fostered a continued love for a continued love of learning about lives lived in days past.

Torrey Honors College welcomed back to campus perpetual member Dr. Jeremy Mann (‘08) on February 19, 2026 to talk with current students about leadership and classical education. Speaking on behalf of the Key Fellows, Dr. Mann reflected on how Torrey shaped him to succeed in his dream of founding a classical school. After graduating from Torrey Honors, Dr. Mann founded The Field School as a classical Christian school designed to serve a diverse community of K-8 students from the greater Chicago area.

Dr. Mann shared helpful tips on the lessons Torrey has taught him, such as “take a risk and just say something” and “sacrifice for something beautiful.” After sharing many heartwarming stories on the fruit God has produced since starting The Field School, Dr. Mann left students with the advice to “do things that are lovely and praiseworthy and give the outcome up to God.”

Last month Torrey Honors College hosted Dr. Michael Pakaluk and Dr. Peter Leithart for a debate on natural law. Our own Dr. Matthew Wright moderated the debate that proposed the resolution: “Human beings are capable of forming sound moral principles from nature without the aid of divine revelation.” Dr. Pakaluk, Professor of Political Economy at Catholic University of America, argued for the affirmative position, and Dr. Leithart, President of Theopolis Institute and organizing pastor of Immanuel Reformed Church, gave the opposing argument. They expanded on ideas from their respective essays in a recent book from Zondervan titled Natural Law: Five Views (2025). Dr. Pakaluk and Dr. Leithart debated over the nature of natural law while drawing from sources such as Romans, Aquinas, and Augustine. Both scholars exemplified the practice of engaging in conversations centered on long-standing questions across time that Torrey Honors strives to encourage in its students.
