A new gallery exhibit is open at the Tony Hungerford Memorial Art Gallery! "Screen Time" is a solo exhibit by Yikui (Coy) Gu that examines the prevalence of screened devices in our lives, and our relationships with those screens. How do they mediate and affect our virtual experiences, and how do they affect our interactions with each other? The fourteen works on exhibit probe the moments when a screen extends beyond its utilitarian function, and spreads into the realm of cultural artifact.

As students across Southern Maryland return to school, some high school juniors and seniors are jumpstarting their college careers at the College of Southern Maryland (CSM) through the Early College program.

For Julianna Conte, the opportunity to earn college credit while still in high school made Early College an easy choice. Now in her second year, she plans to continue her education to a bachelor’s degree program in psychology, with hopes of one day opening her own practice.

Last week, CSM hosted an Early College orientation featuring workshops and presentations to introduce students to their programs and college life at CSM. The orientation welcomed nearly 150 students to the La Plata and Prince Frederick campuses to prepare for the start of the academic year.

Dr. Linda Forrest, assistant director of Dual Enrollment and Early College, said the program gives students a foundation they can build on as they explore their long-term academic and career goals.

As participants in the 10th Annual Sip and Swing took to the putting green, golfers made their way down the fairways during the College of Southern Maryland’s (CSM) Annual Golf Classic, all in support of student achievement.

The Sip and Swing offers golfers of all skill levels a chance to enjoy the sport while supporting student success. This year, 32 participants took part in mini-golf-style putting challenges led by golf pros from Swan Point Yacht and Country Club, who helped players get into the swing of things with a short putting lesson.

The Southern Maryland Women’s League (SMWL) has sponsored the Sip and Swing since the event’s inception in 2015. The organization is dedicated to supporting the Southern Maryland community through fundraising, special events, and volunteer efforts. Andrea Sanford, past president and current communications chair, said SMWL is proud to continue strengthening its relationship with CSM while supporting students as they pursue educational and career opportunities.
