Dr. Ramirez is a respected food industry leader and longtime executive with Northgate Gonzalez Markets, where he has built a distinguished career in innovation, product development, and the Latino food marketplace. A graduate of the University of La Verne’s Ed.D. in Organizational Leadership program, he is also deeply committed to developing the next generation of leaders.

It was wonderful welcoming the Ed.D. in Organizational Leadership Class of 2028 to the University of La Verne’s LaFetra College of Education as they begin this exciting new chapter!

The Fall Intensive provided an opportunity for our newest scholar-practitioners to come together, build connections, engage in meaningful conversations, and begin developing the community that will support them throughout the program. With leaders representing diverse organizations, industries, and professional backgrounds, the cohort brings a wealth of experiences and perspectives to their shared doctoral journey.

Over the next two years, these leaders will examine the opportunities and challenges facing today’s organizations, strengthen their capacity to lead across diverse environments, and bring research into conversation with their professional practice. Through the perspectives of their fellow cohort members, they will also gain new ways of thinking about leadership, organizations, and the people and communities they serve.

Congratulations to the incoming class of the reimagined Ed.D. in Organizational Leadership program at the University of La Verne’s LaFetra College of Education!

For more than 50 years, Organizational Leadership at the University of La Verne has prepared leaders to make a lasting difference in their organizations and communities. This incoming cohort builds upon that proud legacy while beginning an exciting new chapter in the program’s history.

As the first cohort to enter our reimagined Ed.D. experience, these leaders are embarking on an innovative doctoral journey that includes an integrated two-year model, embedding the dissertation throughout the program rather than treating it as a separate final stage. The result is an intentionally designed experience that connects scholarship, practice, and leadership from the very beginning.

At LaFetra College of Education, our vision is to prepare educators and leaders for lifelong impact in an evolving world. This cohort represents that vision: leaders prepared to navigate complexity, embrace innovation, challenge ideas, collaborate across sectors, and translate knowledge into action.

The LaFetra College of Education is proud to congratulate Dr. Whitney Hegseth on the upcoming publication of her new book, Just Talk to Us Normally: A Leader's Guide to Organizing Schools That Elevate Students, to be released later this month by Oxford University Press. This exciting achievement reflects Professor Hegseth's ongoing commitment to supporting educational leaders as they systemically improve student outcomes and experiences.

As Professor Hegseth shares:

"This is a book about how educational leaders can change culture. Specifically, I argue that educational leaders can use educational infrastructure, both direct and indirect supports to teaching and learning, to improve the way we see and teach young people."

We are proud to highlight Professor Patrick McKee as a faculty member in the LaFetra College of Education Preliminary Administrative Services Credential (PASC) Program.

With nearly 30 years of experience in education, Professor McKee has served as an elementary school teacher, assistant principal, principal, university instructor, and TK–12 Director of Teacher and Administrator Induction. His distinguished career reflects a longstanding commitment to developing exceptional educators and educational leaders.

Professor McKee currently serves as Co-Chair of the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing's Committee on Accreditation and is the author of two books focused on literacy development through the mastery of sight words.

Throughout his career, Professor McKee has been recognized for his impact on students, schools, and the profession. As a teacher, he received the San Bernardino County Education Medal of Honor for Excellence in Education. As a principal, he helped one school successfully exit Program Improvement and collaborated in leading another school to earn recognition as a California Gold Ribbon School.

Grounded in the belief that every student deserves an equitable and exceptional educational experience, Professor McKee is passionate about preparing the next generation of educational leaders. His commitment to equity, collaboration, and leadership development reflects the mission of the LaFetra College of Education and our dedication to preparing courageous, collaborative leaders who create meaningful change in schools and communities.

We are proud to spotlight Jazmin Chavez-Diaz, an Adjunct Professor in our Preliminary Administrative Services Credential (PASC) program at the University of La Verne’s LaFetra College of Education. Through her work in the PASC program, Ms. Chavez-Diaz helps prepare and support the next generation of educational leaders.

Ms. Chavez-Diaz has dedicated her career to education, beginning as a high school English teacher and spending 11 years in the classroom before transitioning into school administration. Throughout her career, she has served as a Dean of Guidance, Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction, Elementary Principal, and Coordinator of Curriculum and Instruction. She is now in her seventh year as the Director of Secondary Education for the El Rancho Unified School District.

In addition to her leadership roles, Ms. Chavez-Diaz is currently pursuing her Doctor of Education degree, with research focused on academic interventions at the secondary level.

We are also excited to celebrate Ms. Chavez-Diaz’s latest accomplishment as a co-author of a chapter in the recently released book, The Critical Role of Ethnic Studies in Educational Leadership. Her contribution reflects her commitment to advancing important conversations around educational leadership, equity, and the experiences of diverse student communities.

Summer Intensive marks the beginning of an exciting chapter as these educational leaders engage in meaningful learning, challenge one another's thinking, and strengthen the relationships that will support them long after graduation.
