Grand Champions!

Congratulations to Andrew Judice, Jude Meaux, Brendan Oalmann, Logan Power, and Kaiden Romein on their first place victory in the 2026 Fluid Power Vehicle Challenge!

Their custom designed and manufactured frame, built for reliability, housed a hydraulic power system engineered to excel in efficiency and endurance. The team dedicated countless late nights in the shop welding, wiring electronics, testing components, and preparing for competition.

We are incredibly proud of their achievement and grateful for the support of their industry mentor, Lance Thibodeaux of SunSource, the National Fluid Power Association, Sun Hydraulics, and the many sponsors who made this event possible.

Engineering & Technology Week 2026 action shots. Lots of hours spent volunteering, showcasing mechanical engineering to high school students, presenting research, competing in quizbowl, and competing in mystery design. Oh and let's not forget the classwork, projects, and exams that also were done during the week.

Today, our Intro to Composites Manufacturing class hit the courts instead of the classroom. They tested out their fiber-reinforced polymer composite ping pong and pickleball paddles that they each custom designed and manufactured in class over the past week. It was a beautiful day to put in some hard work validating the performance of their projects.

This week our MCHE 101 students explored non-traditional career paths for mechanical engineers. We were excited to welcome Miles Matt (Class of 1979) and Jason Matt (Class of 2006), both mechanical engineering alumni who are now practicing attorneys. They shared their journey from sitting in MCHE 101 just like our students, to working as engineers, attending law school, and ultimately building successful careers in law.

Their stories showed how versatile an engineering degree can be and how it can open doors to unexpected and impactful career paths. A big thank you to Miles and Jason for returning to share their experiences. Our alumni support truly is the best!

RoboBoat competition Day 3 - Finals/Awards recap.

The team successfully completed the Communications & Reporting task by sending their heartbeat message to the judges. Along the way, they faced unexpected challenges, including rain, heavy winds, and a damaged hull that required quick thinking and on-site repairs. Despite the setbacks, the team stayed focused, continuing long hours of testing both at the lake and late into the night at the AirBnb's pool (yes, they picked a place to stay that allowed them to spend more time testing than sleeping).

Their hard work and determination paid off during the awards ceremony, where they were honored with the BlueRobotics Sponsor Award! This award recognizes teams that demonstrated significant and noteworthy work throughout the week, observed by judges in both technical and social categories.

Congratulations to the team!!

The autonomous boat team Kiley Solomon, Raegan Fontenot, Abigail Fremin, Seth Venable, and Leo Dean (right to left first pic) has made it to Sarasota, FL for the 2026 RoboBoat competition!

Day 1 included check-in and orientation.

Day 2 started with a presentation and technical assessment where the team had to explain the system and functionality to judges. After that, they quickly passed safety check, did a thrust test and weigh-in, then hit the (very windy) lake and completed the entry & exit gates task!

The Fall 2025 Outstanding Graduate in Mechanical Engineering is Ariana Foley! Ariana has served in many leadership roles at the University including (but not limited to), President of Pi Tau Sigma, Vice President of LES, Engineering Ambassador, Dean's Student Advisory Council, and Head of Computer Committee for Formal Recruitment as well as Accountability and Support Board Member for Kappa Delta. In addition to these accomplishments, she is quick witted and always ready with a cheesy engineering pun. So please join us in congratulating Ariana on earning Outstanding Graduate, an accomplishment achieved with a high factor of safety.
