A renowned economist, Ambassador Al Rahbi earned his Economics degree from UL Lafayette in 2000, and was appointed ambassador to the US last March. At the gathering, Interim President Dr. Ramesh Kolluru shared plans in the works to partner with Oman's Sultan Qaboos University and the University of Technology and Applied Science, and announced that the Alumni Association and Office of Global Engagement are honoring the ambassador with the Outstanding International Alumni Award later this spring. Dr. Kolluru presented the ambassador with a replica of the Alumni Center's iconic gates, manufactured by students at the W.D. & Mary Baker Smith Career Center in Lafayette, telling him, "Our gates are always open for you." Special thanks to former U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu for making this connection
