Once a Moc, always a Moc!

This week’s Alumni and Friends gathering in Boston brought together Mocs from multiple generations, with alumni spanning the 1970s through the Class of 2026. It was an evening filled with wonderful conversation, reconnections and new memories.

Thank you to everyone who joined us! We loved bringing our Mocs community together in the beautiful city of Boston, and look forward to the next time we can meet!

For the next installment of our Alumni Success Series, we're featuring Derek Wallace ’14.

When Derek Wallace arrived at Florida Southern College, he knew he wanted to build a career in music. What he didn’t know then was that the lessons he learned as a music management student would eventually lead him to hold an impactful role in nonprofit leadership and fundraising.

Wallace now serves as Vice President of Development at Big Brothers Big Sisters Miami, where he leads fundraising efforts to ensure one-to-one mentoring remains accessible to young people and their families.

“I loved fundraising to make music accessible across our community and to support working artists, and I loved seeing music’s impact on young people just as much,” Wallace said. “Now, getting to work with the Littles at Big Brothers Big Sisters and help inspire the next generation of musicians and leaders brings me so much joy.”

Today, Florida Southern College remembers and honors the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

We also pay tribute to the courage and compassion shown by first responders, service members and communities across the country.

Twenty-five years later, we pause to reflect on the enduring values of freedom, unity, and compassion that carry us forward and remind us of the strength we share as a community.
