The OSS is going green! ๐Ÿค‘ Like their less popular sibling, "Commendations" are tickets the Office of Safety and Security will give you according to your behavior. However, these are rewards for those who exemplify Cairn's Safety values, or to anyone for just being a stand-up student! If you happen to get one, it's our way of saying thank you! (Oh, and did we mention, they are worth 5$ at the Highlands Cafรฉ?! โ˜•๐Ÿ’ต ). Spread the word, as we will be rolling these out this month!!!

Pause and remember the lives lost, and continuing to be lost from disease, this Patriots' Day. Join us in praying for them and their families. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿซก๐Ÿ˜ข๐Ÿ™

We asked our leaders, Director Cornetto and Assistant Director Richardson what they remember on 9/11/2001.

"On that day, we as a nation realized what was truly important. All our societal differences evaporated when we were all just Americans fighting for our lives. What was important before 9/11 was so, no longer. It was more important to be unified to protect ourselves. On that day, our nation united immediately. It was awe-inspiring.

If you were born after 9-11, you can't experience the impact of what it was like at the time. However, you can make the effort to learn about it, understand it, and never let be forgotten." - Kevin Cornetto

"I was deployed in Germany in September 2001, for the Army. We were conducting radio training on Tuesday, the 11th. I led a team to set up antennas at elevated midpoints, which would relay messages to the frontlines. About halfway through the 8-hour regiment, the radios fell silent. That never happens...." ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธWe want to take a moment and appreciate the workers in our lives, who show up each day to make a difference in the world. We especially want to thank our community's frontline and essential workers, who never "take a day off". We understand what it means to work around the clock! ๐Ÿ•ฐ ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ Our goal for every shift is that you never need to worry about safety while here at Cairn; even on the holidays! We also want to thank the amazing staff and faculty at our University who came to work today! (Shout out to all the profs!๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿซ) God bless you, and have a Happy Labor Day!๐ŸŽ†

We are both honored and greatly saddened to bid farewell to Lt. Adam Boyd from the OSS team. He has been faithfully serving our campus over the past year as our overnight supervisor. Now, he will be moving on to a new role in Security elsewhere. This however is not goodbye! Keep your eyes out for him on our social media and on campus. He might just be back for some of our safety classes (More info to come soon!). If you see him, make sure to join us in telling him "Thank you!" ๐Ÿซก ๐Ÿ’™

Let me introduce to you to our fearless leader, Kevin Cornetto! ๐Ÿซก ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ He joined the team in 2010, as the assistant director, and has since become Cairnโ€™s director of security in 2022. However, his journey in law enforcement began much earlier โ€” in 1977! He started out on mobile foot patrols at the age of 19! Summed up, thatโ€™s 33 years in law enforcement and 13 years at Cairn! He was honored to serve on the Franklin Township police force, also working for their presidential security detail, when Presidents Ronald Regan, George H.W. Bush, and Bill Clinton visited! Despite his impressive tenure, his favorite part of the job really hasnโ€™t changed: itโ€™s working with the students! Kevin can communicate in American Sign Language and Spanish, both of which have come in handy in work and in ministry. Some of his greatest experiences were during two mission trips to Costa Rica. Kevin also enjoys hiking with his loving wife Kathy of 41 years, reading science fiction, and watching British television. He admires the person and works of Dietrich Bonhoeffer and loves listening to Dr. Erwin Lutzer of Moody Church. Not only has he worked in Leadership for the OSS, but he has also served as deacon, elder, and Sunday school teacher at his home church. ๐Ÿš“ ๐Ÿ– ๐Ÿ‘ฝ ๐Ÿ™

INFO BELOW! - Introducing Lieutenant Don Murphy, affectionately known by many as "Murph." With 30+ years of security expertise, he's a Philly native and a pro in all things safety. He leads as the evening supervisor and oversees various safety inspections. Beyond his roles with the OSS, Murphy's a devoted night owl, a master storyteller, a mountain biking enthusiast, and a music lover. From Gospel to reggaeton and 80s pop ballads, his tastes vary. When he is not at work, you might find him catching up on some much-needed sleep, or at his home church, Second Baptist in Frankfort. ๐ŸŒ†๐Ÿšฒ๐ŸŽต

Q: How did you end up joining the security team at [University Name]?
A: I had previous working experience with Kevin Cornetto, assistant director at the time. He invited me, and I excepted the offer!

Q: What's your role on the security team, and what do you enjoy most about it?
A: I am the Lieutenant and Evening Shift Supervisor. Honestly, most of my role is to do the same things everyone else does: to make sure all are safe on campus, and to insure the officers beneath me are doing their job effectively. While I enjoy my special responsibilities, what I love most of all has to be our team's camaraderie.

Q: Tell us about a time when your team had to think on their feet to handle a unique security challenge. How did you tackle it?
A: There was a student who had gone missing one evening, considering self harm. I followed protocol, immediately notifying the proper authorities, and we conducted a wide search. With their help, we quickly found the student, making sure they were safe.
