While the Center is closing, SVC will maintain a presence on the South end of the island. We will continue to offer our Women in Transition class, held in Langley, and will be promoting the Leadership Whidbey Program. For more information about this, watch for our Leadership Whidbey website coming in Jan/Feb. We also intend to offer Community Education classes in the future. The South Whidbey Center in Langley has put together several exciting Community Education classes for you for Spring Quarter. The Center is located at 723 Camano Avenue (room 112) in Langley, 360.341.2324.

Among the highlights is an 8-week filmmaking course taught by a former Whidbey Island high school film teacher, Chris Douthitt. In addition to teaching filmmaking, Chris holds numerous advertising honors including a CLIO Award for radio production, and served as a reporter for the Whidbey News-Times for four years.

Also, the South Whidbey Center is partnering with Greg Miller, a retired electrician who offers Continuing Education credits to electricians. He has developed two union approved courses and has taught continuing education for many years in the Puget Sound Region.

Spring Quarter starts April 9th and you must pre-register for all Community Education classes, https://www.skagit.edu/community/community-education/ .

#9510 CENGL 017 AGL INTRO TO FICTION
12:30-3:20pm T SANDAL, DANI
The study of the formal strategies of novels and shorter fictional works. Course includes written and oral analysis of selected works.
Tuesdays beginning April 9th through June 13th
Cost: $90; Hybrid course: this class requires on-line hours

#9515 COCEA 010 AGL INTRO TO OCEANOGRAPHY
12:30-3pm M ELLISER, CINDY
A survey of the extent and nature of the oceans including the contributions of the solid Earth, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere to their physical structure, chemical composition, and functioning. Field trips may be required.
Mondays beginning April 15th through June 17th
Cost: $90
Lab fee included: $56; Hybrid course: this class requires online hours

Description: Making good movies is more than just pointing a camera! Scripts, storyboards, direction, sound, music, lighting, props, special effects, acting and editing are all part of the big picture. Join Chris for this opportunity to build skills using creativity, hands-on activity and fun. Use professional equipment and software and learn how to turn your creative ideas into movie masterpieces. Open to beginners or those wanting to make their current filmmaking even more dazzling and audience-ready.

#9520 CTI 097 AGL USING THE INTERNET TO FIND YOUR ANCESTORS
2:30-4pm F SANDBERG, BOBBI
If you’ve heard the television commercials or watched some of the “who are you” programs, this class is for you. Learn basic procedures for online investigation and several options for your own search. Each session will provide time for YOUR questions. While we can’t promise to find the long-lost royal connection or your great-great grand who made all the money, you WILL learn how to use the internet to begin your search.

The South Whidbey Center will be closed for winter break from December 14 through January 1st. Office hours beginning January 2nd are Tues, Weds, Thurs noon to 5 pm. Winter Quarter classes begin Monday, January 7th. Happy Holidays!
