If you’re 70½ or older and have a traditional IRA, there’s a simple way to give that many people don’t know about.
It’s called a Qualified Charitable Distribution. You ask your IRA custodian to send a gift directly to Great Lakes Christian College, and that money never counts as taxable income. If you’re 73 or older, it also counts toward this year’s required minimum distribution, so money you’d have to withdraw and pay tax on can go to ministry instead.
And it does go to ministry, in the pulpit and well beyond it. GLCC prepares servant-leaders for every corner of life: the preacher and the missionary, yes, but also the teacher who prays over her classroom, the counselor who sits with families in crisis, and the business owner who runs his company like it belongs to God. Your support ensures we're able to continue prepare the next generation of servant-leaders.
The 2026 limit for QCDs is $111,000 per person, and the gift needs to leave your IRA by December 31. Have the check made payable to Great Lakes Christian College, EIN 38-6080947, and then give us a call so we know it’s coming and can thank you properly. (Custodian checks often arrive without the donor’s name on them.)
Questions? We're happy to talk it through: Jamie Wetzel, 517.321.0242. And as always, check with your tax advisor about your own situation.
