University of Wyoming Animal Science students recently traveled to Las Vegas to attend the AQHA Professional Horsemen Academy, where they learned directly from industry experts, veterinarians, and equine business professionals from across the country.
The Academy focuses on the business side of horsemanship β€” from client communication to liability law β€” giving students real-world tools they’ll use the moment they step into the industry. For some, it even meant earning a professional certificate and building connections that could shape their future careers.
Experiences like this show how UW students are preparing to lead in the evolving equine industry, both in and out of the arena.

What incredible students we have!!

Congratulations to the University of Wyoming Wool Judging Team on their Reserve Champion, and Champion Handspinning Division showings at the National Western Intercollegiate Wool Judging Contest!
Team members included:
Trevor Halverson (Big Timber, MT)
Hadley Paisley (Wheatland, WY)
Claire Poppenberger (Prescott Valley, AZ)
Elizabeth Schroeder (Evergreen, CO)
After a seventh-place finish out of eight universities at the UWyo 7220 Wool contest just two days prior, this hard-working squad responded with grit and determination, coming back strong for an excellent all-around finish on a national stage.
The team is coached by Dr. Whit Stewart, with outstanding support and leadership from assistant coaches Cameron Herrick (Laramie, WY) and Allie Van Why (Chugwater, WY).
A special shout-out as well to the Johnson County 4-H educator and former UWyo wool judging assistant coach Bryce McKensie for his support in the reasons room with our team this past weekβ€”your enthusiasm and expertise helped make this success possible.
Eat lamb. Wear wool. Go Pokes! πŸ‘πŸ’›πŸ€

It's finally Giving Day! We at the Animal Science Department invite you to Seize The Day and donate to the revival of the Wheel of Brands Scholarship, which was started in 1990 by established members of the Wyoming and surrounding states agricultural community to help provide ease of financial stress for students pursuing Animal Science education. This is a thriving community, one we're very proud of and thankful for the roots they established for us.
