At the end of last week, the College of Arts & Sciences welcomed new faculty and their families to UW with a dinner at the Train Depot! 🚞

🌟 Meet A&S Board of Visitors Chair Mary Ellbogen Garland! 🌟

Mary is involved personally as a volunteer and professionally in service to the people of the state of Wyoming. She is the president and chair of the John P. Ellbogen Foundation. The focus of her work is in education and for the well-being of children families. She has given support to teacher quality, education leadership, early childhood care and education, civics education, student scholarship and basic needs for Wyoming communities.

"I have had the wonderful opportunity of serving as an advocate and ambassador for the College of Arts & Sciences for many years," she says. "I am delighted to witness first-hand the incredible talent of the leadership, faculty, staff and students in the College. It is an honor to support the preparation of students whose skills and leadership will enrich their future workplace and the communities in which they live."

Throughout the academic year, this new series will explore the people, ideas, opportunities, and conversations shaping the College of Arts & Sciences.

🌏 ✈️ Where in the world were A&S students and professors this summer?

Anthropology professors Allison Caine and Nikolas Sweet recently wrapped up their 3-week study abroad course “Nature and Culture in Peru.” Students were able to explore archaeological sites in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, learn about regenerative agriculture, alpaca herding, and traditional weaving, and eat lots of delicious Peruvian food!

They ended the course by in the city of Cusco to celebrate Inti Raymi, the festival of the sun. Interested UW students are encouraged to keep an eye out for future study abroad courses offered by anthropology faculty!

How is Saddle Up already winding down!? 🤯

After meeting with faculty in their departments and getting to know their majors, first-year A&S students headed outside yesterday afternoon for a cookie social outside the A&S Building. They played yard games, enjoyed some treats and, most importantly, had a chance to meet other students from across the college.
