University of Wyoming helped set a national model for conserving migratory big game—while keeping working lands working.

The U.S. Geological Survey’s Wyoming Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit at UW conducted foundational migration research and leads a team that has mapped hundreds of migration routes across the West.

CALSNR Associate Professor Jerod Merkle also serves as science adviser to the USDA’s migratory big-game work—helping connect Wyoming research with conservation that supports wildlife, farmers, and ranchers.

A rare, injured broad-winged hawk found on the UW campus in June has recovered and was released back into its natural habitat! UW staff and faculty, the Teton Raptor Center, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department (WGFD), and the Rocky Mountain Raptor Program made its release possible.
