The annual Plant Sciences Medicine Bow Labor Day Hike was a success!
Almost 4 miles, more than 2,000 feet of elevation gain, incredible mountain views…and maybe a few sore legs the next day. Totally worth it!
After conquering the trail, we celebrated the best way possible…with a delicious brunch and plenty of hot coffee.
One of the best parts of Plant Sciences is getting to spend time together outside the classroom, lab, and greenhouse. Whether you’re an undergraduate, graduate student, faculty, or staff member, we’d love to have you join this Plant Sciences tradition next year!
Come for the views. Stay for the brunch. Go Pokes!

UW Plant Sciences graduate Drea Hineman presented a poster highlighting the undergraduate research she conducted in the JJ Chen Lab during her senior year at the 2026 American Society for Horticultural Science (ASHS) Annual Conference in Dallas!

Drea is now continuing her education at Texas A&M University, where she is pursuing her M.S. degree. Congratulations, Drea, and best wishes for this exciting next chapter! 🌱🎓

Last week, our own Dr. Karen Panter was selected as a Fellow of Pi Alpha Xi, the national honorary society for horticulture!
This distinguished honor is awarded to PAX members who have demonstrated exceptional service or excellence in horticulture and/or provided meritorious service to the society. Dr. Panter has certainly done both through her extensive contributions to horticultural scholarship and her dedicated service on the PAX board.
Congratulations, Dr. Panter on this deserving honor and thank you for your years of service to UWYO and PAX!

Dr. Nevin Lawrence, University of Nebraska, Lincoln, along with Dr. Andrew Kniss and Dr. Clint Beiermann, both from University of Wyoming, held a wonderful w**d research tour! The rain didn’t stop anyone from learning more about the great research occurring at both institutions! Thank you to everyone who attended and enjoyed getting wet.

Step two of tissue culture! The African Violet leaf cuttings propagated in March have shoots, so it’s on to step two! Will these plantlets produce roots? Stay tuned! Thanks again to Dr. Williams-Woodward for making this successful propagation process possible!

The Norton Lab crew recently hosted our collaborating researchers from Utah State University and the Quinn Institute. We enjoyed sharing our Kernza® research plots in southeast Wyoming and discussing the work being done to advance sustainable agriculture.
