Our Spring 2026 Distinguished Student Scholar for the A.R. Sanchez, Jr. School of Business is Alejandra Flores.

Originally from Laredo, Texas, Alejandra is the daughter of Jose Angel and Teresa Flores and a graduate of Cigarroa High School. A proud first-generation student, she earns a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting, graduating summa cm laude with a 3.9 GPA.

Alejandra demonstrated strong leadership as Vice President of the A.R. Sanchez School of Business Dean’s Student Advisory Council and as Chair of the Student Government Association’s Leaders Organizing Volunteer Events Committee.

Her commitment to service extended internationally through programs in Costa Rica and South Korea, supporting community development efforts and earning four Gold President’s Volunteer Service Awards.

Alejandra interned with Cerda, Teran & Associates, earning a full-time role as an Accounting Associate. Upon graduation, she will relocate to Houston to begin her professional career in an Audit & Assurance position with Deloitte.

The Center for the Study of Western Hemispheric Trade will have their third IBC Bank & Commerce Bank Keynote Speaker Series presentation of the year.

Dr. Ge**er will be presenting "Swimming Against the Current: The Evolution and Challenges of the U.S.-Mexico Border Economy" this Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at 6 pm in the TAMIU Student Center Ballroom.

Open to the public and free of charge.

We are pleased to share a new working paper from Haibo Wang and Takeshi Tsuyuguchi, titled “Market Reactions and Information Spillovers in Bank Mergers: A Multi-Method Analysis of the Japanese Banking Sector.”

The paper examines the market reaction to two mergers and acquisitions (M&A) events using a multi-method analysis. The combination of several distinct methods provides a unique perspective on M&A events in the Japanese banking sector, offering valuable insights for investors, managers, and regulators concerned with market efficiency and systemic stability.
