Add a professional dimension to your Spanish studies. 🇪🇸💼

The Business Spanish Experience Minor combines Spanish and business coursework with an internship in a Spanish-speaking business environment while studying abroad.

And if you’re planning to study abroad in Spring 2027, you may be eligible for the Mel & JoAnn Jameson Study Abroad Scholarship through Lee Business School:

💰 $1,200 study abroad scholarship
➕ $800 internship stipend for eligible students completing an internship in a foreign-language business environment
💰 Up to $2,000 total

Students in the Business Spanish Experience Minor are particularly encouraged to apply, with first preference given to BSE Minor students.

📅 Deadline for preferential consideration: November 1, 2026

Struggling with your language studies? You don't have to figure it out alone. 📚

Midterms are a good time to reach out for support. There are plenty of ways to get help, practice, and connect with others:

🌎 WLC Department Resources: Check out our Spanish conversation tables, group tutoring, and other opportunities to connect and practice.

👥 Study With Classmates: Form a study group, compare notes, quiz each other, and work through challenging material together.

👩‍🏫 Professor Office Hours: Have a question about an assignment, grammar concept, reading, or exam? Stop by your professor's office hours.

📚 Tutoring: Get additional support with course material and language skills.

🗣️ Student Run Conversation Tables: Practice speaking with other students in a relaxed setting through RSOs.

Asking for help isn't a sign that you're behind. It's part of learning.

When you're learning a language, different skills require different kinds of practice.

🗣️ Speaking: Practice conversations, answer questions aloud, or talk through your day in your target language.

🎧 Listening: Listen to music, podcasts, videos, or conversations. Try to understand the main idea before looking up every word.

📖 Reading: Read short stories, articles, social media posts, or course materials. Highlight unfamiliar words and look at how they're used in context.

✍️ Writing: Write sentences, journal entries, messages, or short responses. Try writing from memory before checking your notes.

🔤 Grammar: Practice using grammar in context, not just memorizing rules. Create your own sentences and look for patterns.

🧠 Vocabulary: Use new words in sentences, group related words together, and revisit them regularly instead of memorizing them once.

Time for a mid-semester language reset. 🔄📚

If your language-learning routine has started to feel a little stuck, now is a good time to check in and refresh your approach.

📖 Review something you’ve already learned.
🗣️ Speak out loud—even when you’re practicing on your own.
🎧 Listen to music, videos, or other content in your language.
✍️ Write a few sentences without looking up every word.
🎯 Refocus on one small goal for the next few weeks.

You know more than you think. 👀

It can be easy to focus on what you haven’t mastered yet. But take a moment to notice what’s already becoming easier.

Maybe you understand a phrase without translating. Recognize a word in a new context. Catch more when listening. Build a sentence more quickly. Or respond with a little more confidence.

Language learning is a process, and progress doesn’t always feel dramatic. Sometimes, it’s simply realizing that something that once felt unfamiliar now feels a little more natural.
