How are Clark County residents helping UNLV researchers from their own backyards? 🦟

UNLV researchers in the UNLV School of Public Health Parasitology & Vector Biology Laboratory typically study mosquitoes in their lab setting to study and better control mosquito-borne diseases.

Now, researchers are enlisting local residents to use traps in their backyard that mimics the scent of human sweat to lure mosquitoes in. Once collected, the samples go directly to the lab.

We were so grateful to partner with Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the UNLV School of Dental Medicine and our community partners to Pack the Mack today.

Local families were able to receive free backpacks, oral health screenings and haircuts for their students before they head back to school 💇

The UNLV School of Public Health was one of seven UNLV programs ranked on the list of global programs.

What do health inspectors notice the moment they walk into a restaurant?

Tasting Table talked to Brian Labus, Associate Professor of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at UNLV School of Public Health, about some major red flags a health inspector will notice right off the bat.

"Inspectors initially notice the same things that customers do: smells and general cleanliness," Labus said. "If the restaurant is disorganized, dirty, and smells bad where the customers can see it, it's probably going to be much worse in the back."

Our students are changing the world and helping Clark County residents get outside 🌏

As part of her Active Transport class, Clarisse Andrada was just one of the UNLV School of Public Health students dispatched to help the Southern Nevada Health District Get Healthy Clark County team with their Neon to Nature app.

The app helps residents discover walking and bike trails in their neighborhood. But, with over 1,000 miles of trails in the valley, information about the trails can become outdated.

That’s where our students come in.
