UNLV Greenspun College of Urban Affairs The Greenspun College of Urban Affairs prepares students to become agents of change.

The Greenspun College of Urban Affairs develops solutions for progressive and resilient cities. Progressive cities embrace effective governance, social equity, and diversity. Resilient communities work together to prepare for and respond to common challenges. In doing so, citizens of effective cities exhibit a willingness and desire to work together and to have strong productive and inclusive enga

gement about important community issues. Our academic programs in the college address homelessness, crime and tourist safety, digital storytelling, 21st Century workforce development, collaboration, solutions to community resilience and overcoming trauma, and effective public policy. The College of Urban Affairs houses the following academic programs: Department of Communication Studies, Department of Criminal Justice, Hank Greenspun School of Journalism & Media Studies, School of Public Policy and Leadership and the School of Social Work.

Kelli Kelly, a UNLV School of Public Policy and Leadership master's graduate, was honored as one of UNLV's Outstanding Graduates! Kelly received her master's in urban leadership and was recently featured in the Las Vegas Sun.

When Fallon resident Kelli Kelly walks across the stage at UNLV’s Thomas & Mack Center tonight to receive her master’s degree in urban leadership, she’ll do so knowing her work created real change.

Today marks World Maternal Mental Health Day so we'd like to spotlight Frances Young, a UNLV School of Social Work alumna and visiting lecturer. She is a licensed perinatal mental health specialist in Nevada advocating for more mental health resources for new parents. At UNLV, she is training a new generation of social workers to be prepared for the clients they’ll encounter.

They are among 8,000 undergraduate and graduate students currently considered nontraditional students at UNLV. They plan to continue into UNLV’s master’s program in social work. Learn more about why their life experiences inspired them to enroll in college at later stages in life.

Lisa Dirk, Billy Owensby, and Ryan Sousa graduate on May 16 with their bachelor’s degree in social work, something that’s been a longtime goal for all three.

They are among 8,000 undergraduate and graduate students currently considered nontraditional students at UNLV. They plan to continue into UNLV’s master’s program in social work. Learn more about why their life experiences inspired them to enroll in college at later stages in life.

Although their journeys to graduation day are all different, these three social work students share how UNLV brought them together outside the classroom.
