Dr. Chris Stream Featured in National WalletHub Article on Income Disparities

Dr. Christopher Stream, Interim Director of the UNLV School of Social Work and Associate Professor in the School of Public Policy and Leadership, was recently featured as an expert contributor in WalletHub’s national analysis, “States Where People Have the Highest Income.”

Drawing from over two decades of experience in public service and policy in Southern Nevada, Dr. Stream offered insights into the structural causes of income inequality, the impact of economic disruption on working families, and the importance of aligning workforce development with emerging industries like AI and public health.

“It’s not just about what people earn — it’s about whether they have real opportunities to move up,” said Dr. Stream in the piece. “When we invest in people and the systems that support them, we build a stronger economy for everyone.”

The article features expert opinions from academics across the country and highlights key policy opportunities for addressing income gaps at the state level.

US News Ranking Announcement 2023-2024

The School of Public Policy and Leadership at UNLV is among the nation’s best, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2023-2024 edition of “Best Graduate Schools,” released April 25. U.S. News and World Report once again ranked it in the Top 100 of Public Affairs and Policy programs.

The School of Public Policy and Leadership, located in the Greenspun College of Urban Affairs, is once again recognized as one of the nation's top public affairs and policy programs,” said Christopher Stream, Director of the School. “Our ranking reflects our excellent faculty, the innovative programs we offer, and the quality students we attract.”
The School is the only Nationally Ranked Public Policy program in the State of Nevada.

The School’s rising graduate ranking can be attributed to the positive momentum the School has enjoyed recently. In addition, the School of Public Policy and Leadership has earned National Accreditation from NASPAA (the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration). It is the only Nationally Accredited Public Policy program in Nevada.

“This is really an exciting time for the School” Stream said. “We are hiring amazing faculty, our graduate students continue to be phenomenal, and the applications have continued to rise because people are hearing about what a great place this is. Our students and faculty continue to impact Nevada and our community through their research and by graduating students with the analytical and leadership skills to make a difference in their communities.”

“We are extremely proud to be the only ranked Public Policy program in Nevada and ranked in the top 100 public policy programs nationwide. But this is just one part of our story. As we continue to attract and graduate incredible students, we will take our place as a top 50 Public Policy Program in no time.”
