“There’s just this essence of the desert and its magical qualities, whether it’s the quality of the light or the quality of sound and silence,” Alina Lindquist, graduate student at UNLV, says. “Obviously, the desert isn’t silent. There are a lot of things happening, but it’s silent of human activity.”

The desert’s life may not be noticed at first. Desert passers-by must be willing to slow down long enough to see. Observation is a learned skill. Artists who draw from the natural world understand ...

Our very own Dan45 Hernandez ( ) is a College Art Association (CAA) 2025/2026 Fellow!
From the CAA website: Dan Hernandez is a multidisciplinary artist based in Las Vegas, Nevada. Hernandez considers the different social and environmental forces that shape our self-perception through drawings, sculptures, and performances that layer references to pop culture and childhood. He [graduated] this spring with an MFA from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Hernandez’s artistic journey has taken him to various galleries and museums across Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, Illinois, and California. Recently, he completed a residency with Meow Wolf, which included an installation at Omega Mary in Las Vegas and a collaborative project for UNLV’s Artwalk. Additionally he partnered with McDonald’s to create a sculpture for the Midtown Maryland Parkway District Public Art Project, positioned in front of the new McDonald’s in Las Vegas. In addition to his visual art, Hernandez is the creator of the SOCIAL COMA zine and co-runs the art collaborative LovervillUSA with his wife. His wood sculptures have made subtle appearances within urban settings across the Northwest.

Congratulations Dan on everything you have achieved thus far! We can’t wait to see what you will do! For he’s a jolly good fellow!!!!
