UNLV Auditory Cognition and Development Lab

UNLV Auditory Cognition and Development Lab In the UNLV Music Lab, we examine how infants, children and adults respond to and understand music.

Our lab examines how human knowledge of music is shaped by the innate structure of the auditory system, by our culture-specific listening experiences, our participation in musical activities (such as dancing and singing), and by the knowledge we simultaneously acquire in other domains such as language. By studying how infants, children, and adults respond to and understand music, we want to answer these fundamental questions about our musical nature.

Members of our lab were a part of the huge replication project discussed in this article (now published in Nature, link in comments). The results are somewhat disappointing --only roughly half the papers/claims replicated, and AI did not help predict which studies would replicate. But the hope is that this work will eventually help us build a more robust science.

Conducting research is hard; confirming the results is, too. And artificial intelligence isn’t yet ready to help, a major new study finds.
