Our Lead Ambassador, Evan, has been in Washington DC this summer interning with the United States Senate Cybersecurity Division. During his time working in this specialized position he’s learned a few things, some of which he’d like to share with you:
· If you have even an inkling that you hope to achieve something, do everything in your power to make it happen. Do not be afraid to ask for help along the way.
· Dress for the role you want. The way you carry yourself matters and should be one of your highest priorities (The Assistant Secretary of Defense for Legislative Affairs told me this one, and I stand by it)
· Always be building your resume when possible. Take time applying and interviewing for opportunities within your desired career path. Focus on SSP- Sustained Superior Performance, differentiate yourself from those around you (thank NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine for the acronym)
· Carry a business card. Imagine, if someone handed you their business card right now, how you would react… Be the person leaving that impression.
· Never tell yourself you aren’t good enough. If you don’t achieve something that you hope for, keep trying. No one meets success without failure. I applied to 72 internships before an offer crossed my table.
· Don’t forget to breathe
· Be confident
· Be passionate
· Be tenacious
· Write Thank You letters
