BL 103: World Series of Birds is a 1-credit class offered every spring. It culminates in a trip to Cape May, NJ, for students to compete in the World Series of Birding, sponsored by New Jersey Audubon. Our students are required to attend at least one of several Saturday field trips to state parks in Western Pennsylvania. Our trip on April 18 netted 63 species of birds during our 8 hours in the field. The weather was perfect! Many thanks to a private donor who subsidizes the cost of our trip to New Jersey.

It's that time of year when the World Series of Birding Teams at Saint Vincent College do a fundraiser for the conservation organization of their choice. The students decided on the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy this year. Students in Dr. Kellam's Wildlife Biology Lab chose an old taxidermy bird mount from the department's collection, cleaned it up, and wrote text for an educational sign to go with the bird. These will be placed on display in the Dupre Pavilion within the next few months.

The Tri-Beta Biological Honors Society hosted the third annual Family Feud contest between the Chemistry and Biological Sciences Departments. They surveyed 100 students for the answers. The score was 700 to 500, so it was a good competition.
