What does leadership in education really look like?

For Javen Betts, it looks like building trust with students and helping young people believe in the futures they may not yet see for themselves.

Javen is an elementary educator at Shawnee Mission School District and a current master's student in the Educational Administration program at the KU School of Education & Human Sciences. The program has reinforced a core lesson he carries into his classroom: What’s modeled is important, and what’s important must be modeled. Effective leadership starts with intention, care, and consistency.
