The Undergraduate Biology Program offers free monthly coffee hours with faculty members, called Coffee & Chromosomes. Our first Coffee & Chromosomes is Tuesday, September 8, from 12:30 - 1:30 PM. Stop by to learn about faculty research projects, learn about campus events, and get to know your professors!

Our guests will be Drs. Scott Hefty and Trevor Rivers, who both lead study abroad programs specifically for biology majors

Trevor Rivers and Julie Campbell were awarded the Chris Haufler KU Core 34 Award at KU's Annual Teaching Summit for the innovation and transformation they've brought to the introductory biology courses, BIOL 154 (Campbell) and BIOL 100 (Rivers).

“While BIOL 154 is a relatively new course, it's one I'm immensely proud of. The course reflects ideas, insights, and inspiration I've gained from countless TAs, students, faculty, and staff over the years. Four of the 2026-2030 Self Graduate Fellows belong to the Departments of Molecular Biosciences & Ecology and Evolutionary Biology! Congratulations and welcome to Daniel Ibañez IV (Ecology and Evolutionary Biology), Ananda Kalukin (Molecular Biosciences), Molly Kennedy (Ecology and Evolutionary Biology), & Michelle Woolridge (Molecular Biosciences)

The fellowship identifies and recruits exceptional doctoral students who demonstrate the promise to make significant contributions to their fields and society as a whole. The total value of the four-year doctoral fellowship exceeds $275,000, which covers full tuition and fees, provides graduate research assistant support of $40,000 per year, a $15,000 professional development award, a $5,000 startup award, a $3,000 textbook and technology award, and a robust professional development program.
