Intercampus Program in Communicative Disorders, University of Kansas Intercampus Program in Communicative Disorders, University of Kansas in Speech-Language Pathology, and the Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) and Ph.D. in Audiology.

The IPCD offers graduate training in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology at the University of Kansas and is an intercampus program combining the faculty, research and clinical facilities of two departments: the Department of Hearing and Speech, located at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, and the Department of Speech-Language-Hearing: Sciences and Disorders, located in Lawrence. Graduate degrees conferred through the Intercampus Program include the Master of Arts (M.A.), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)

Our own Michael S. Vitevich, Ph.D., has been named as a one of the recipients of 2026 Shulenburger Award for Innovation and Advocacy in Scholarly Communication by KU Libraries!

The Shulenburger Award recognizes KU faculty, staff, students and academic departments that champion open access and innovation in scholarly communication. The award was established in 2014 through a gift by David Shulenburger, former KU provost and executive vice chancellor, to encourage open sharing of the results of research and promote greater equity in access to scholarly endeavors.

"Vitevitch has championed open science for more than 20 years, incorporating open practices across his research, teaching and public engagement. His Phonotactic Probability Calculator, a web-based research tool co-created with Paul Luce in 2004, has been cited more than 700 times and remains a foundational tool in linguistics and psychology. "

The awardees will be recognized during an Open Access Week webinar at 2 p.m. Oct. 22, featuring Corinna Turbes, senior manager of government relations at SPARC, who will break down the current state of federal public access policy and what it means for scholarly work at KU.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Mindy Bridges as she has been appointed as the inaugural Dean's Fellow for Research and Innovation in the School of Health Professions!

Mindy brings a distinguished history of research leadership and grant success to her new role. She has secured substantial external funding through major NIH awards, including serving as principal investigator on two R01 grants, and has contributed to collaborative projects funded by both the NIH and the Institute of Education Sciences. She has also demonstrated a strong ability to leverage pilot funding into larger, externally funded research initiatives, giving her a deep understanding of the factors that drive successful research programs.

In her new role as Dean’s Fellow for Research, Mindy will work with school leadership, department chairs, faculty, and campus research leaders to strengthen research infrastructure, streamline processes, encourage interdisciplinary partnerships, and support faculty research development. She will also oversee the school’s grant management office and partner with the research administration team to ensure effective grant support throughout the funding lifecycle.

Her proven success as an investigator, mentor, collaborator, and research leader positions her to make a meaningful impact as the School of Health Professions continues to expand and strengthen its research mission.
