Dr. Ryan is bringing to Rider a traveling pop up exhibit she helped create for the centennial anniversary of the 19th Amendment. Go see "Marketing the Movement: How Women Won the Vote" in the SRC Atrium between Tuesday morning October 6th and Tuesday morning October 20th. The exhibit highlights the efforts of many New Jersey suffrage activists who used brilliant marketing strategies in order to win the right to vote! (See flyer)

Wednesday October 14th at 6:30pm with GSS Dr. Ryan will screen The Archivettes, a documentary about the Le***an Herstory Archives. Founded in the 1970s in a New York City apartment, The Le***an Herstory Archives is now the world's largest collection of materials by and about le****ns. The Archivettes explores how this group came together to combat invisibility by literally rescuing history from the trash, and creating "a place that says yes."

We are thrilled to be following the screening with a Q and A with Archivettes filmmaker Megan Rossman.
Email Dr. Ryan to register and receive the Zoom link for this exciting event!

Then, join us Tuesday, October 6 at 7 p.m. on Zoom. The second session of this 2-part series will focus on some of the practical ways students can get involved in the upcoming election. For many young voters, environmental concerns are front and center. Our discussion will define environmental voting, the Green New Deal, and the Paris Climate Agreement. We’ll look at the cross-section of environmental and social justice and how it plays a role in the environmental vote from the federal to the local level. We’ll also explore and correct much of the frequent misinformation on voting by mail and other election myths that are circulating this year. Finally, we will learn all about and see why we’re one of the nation’s most voter friendly campuses. We’ll share resources to make sure everyone’s vote is well informed and counted.

If you found us on Broncnation, thank you for taking an interest in History Club!

To all existing members, we hope you had a great summer, and are excited to see you all this year!

We understand that this is an unpredictable year, so for the Fall 2020 semester, all History Club meetings will take place virtually. While we enjoy seeing your faces, we want to make sure everyone stays safe and healthy.

Instead of taking any in-person trips this semester, we will discuss the possibility of attending virtual museums and special topic speakers. Each meeting will be about a different, niche topic of history, which will be announced the week of the meeting. Meetings themselves will occur bi-weekly, with our first meeting being on WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 9TH!

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Melanie Gallo ([email protected]), Matthew Triolo ([email protected]), or Victoria Burd ([email protected]).

We look forward to seeing you guys on the 9th!

Happy Women's Equality Day

After decades of demanding change, the 19th Amendment finally gave American women the right to vote in 1920. Many suffragists, however, ended their activism with the ratification, even though the win left much more work to do. The enactment of voting rights marked the end of one struggle and the beg...

This year's Virginia Cyrus Scholarship, established in honor of the founding director of the Women's Studies program, is history major and GSS minor Maya Eastmond. The award recognizes students who show academic promise of excellence and show potential to improve the status of women and girls through scholarship and/or activism.

Also, while the 38th annual GSS Colloquium was cancelled due to Covid, about half of the students recorded their presentations and we put up a YouTube Colloquium instead! History major Taina Santiago posted her presentation based on her capstone, "Race, Riots, and Realizations." See the link here:
