Fantastic article about last weekend!

📰 All uniformed up in pink t-shirts and mustard-yellow turnout gear, 31 girls from Marion and Linn counties gained a little experiential insight into the inner workings of firefighting during the Linn County Young Women’s Fire Academy last weekend.

Day two ended with a competitive game called water ball. Two teams battle using hose lines and a dodgeball on a wire. Fire team to push the ball to the other side with their hose stream wins!
There was also vehicle extrication, cpr, ladder throwing, car fires, ropes and knots, and everyone got the chance to climb the 107 foot aerial ladder. These girls were fearless!!

Firefighting is often known to be a bit of a “family tradition”. Sons follow in their father’s footsteps- sometimes for many generations. Here are the daughters (and cousins and granddaughters) of some of our local firefighters. They just might continue into the firefighter profession…. How cool would that be!

Day one is in the books!! While we don’t yet have pictures from all the skills they did today here is a sneak peak. The girls did stations at wildland, physical agility, SCBA, rappelling, hose handling, vertical ventilation, fire investigation, search and rescue…. The list goes on.
We can’t wait for day 2! So much more to come: car fires, vehicle extrication, 107 foot aerial ladder climb….

We are getting excited for this weekend!! The t-shirts and water bottles are here... the turnouts are ready... the cars to cut up are on their way. We can't wait!
