For many children, especially those who are neurodivergent, a sudden surge of feelings can lead to shutdowns or "overreactions" that leave others confused. Too often, these moments are met with judgment rather than curiosity.

But here’s the truth: Emotional intelligence is a skill that can be taught.

On the next episode of A World of Difference - Beacon College, we’re diving deep into how we can build these essential life skills together.

At Beacon College’s 36th Commencement Exercises, the College conferred the Doctor of Humane Letters upon Fred and Nancy Poses in recognition of their visionary leadership through Understood.org and the Poses Family Foundation.

For more than three decades, the Poses have advanced a mission rooted in expanding opportunity for people who learn and think differently. Through Understood.org, they have built one of the nation’s leading nonprofits dedicated to supporting neurodiverse families—working toward an ambitious goal of putting 100 million neurodivergent individuals on a path to thriving by 2030.

Their philanthropic work through the Poses Family Foundation has further strengthened systems of access, equity, and inclusion. From education and after‑school programming to cultural institutions and disability advocacy, the Foundation has helped shape environments where neurodivergent individuals can learn, grow, and contribute.

Beacon College is proud to honor the Poses for their sustained commitment to creating a world that recognizes and celebrates neurodiversity.
