We're excited to have been named the 2026 Best of State winner in the technical college/vocational education category.

This marks the second consecutive year MTECH has received this award, and the seventh time in the last nine years.

This achievement, won year over year, speaks to the consistent excellence happening across our campuses.

Award highlights include celebrating the largest graduating class in Utah’s technical education system while maintaining remarkable success with an 82% program completion rate, 89% job placement rate, and 100% licensure rate.

Additionally, the college marked transformative milestones with the opening of its comprehensive Payson Campus and the groundbreaking of the future Heber Valley campus.

“We are profoundly honored by this significant acknowledgment from the committee,” said President Clay Christensen. “I must also thank the dedicated team of faculty and staff for delivering the kind of amazing student experience that makes this recognition possible.”

This achievement reflects our ongoing commitment to high-quality, career-focused education.

Through expert instruction and unrivaled support systems, MTECH continues to deliver training that prepares students for in-demand careers and meets the evolving needs of Utah’s workforce.

MTECH's School of Technology recently wrapped up its first-ever Hack-a-Thon event, bringing together students from Software Quality Assurance, Digital Marketing and Analytics, Digital Design, iOS Development, and Web Programming and Development to collaborate on app prototypes.

Working in teams under tight deadlines, students planned, designed, built, tested, and presented their projects to a panel of industry judges.

Thank you to everyone who participated, judged, and supported the event. We're excited to see where these ideas go next!

President Clay Christensen was recently featured on the Council on Occupational Education's Presidential Podcast, hosted by Dr. Kirk A. Nooks.

Congratulations MTECH students for winning record-setting number of awards at SkillsUSA Competition!

Our students delivered a remarkable performance at the 2026 Utah SkillsUSA competition, earning a total of 30 medals across a wide range of technical competitions.

They brought home 11 gold, 11 silver, and 8 bronze medals, marking one of our strongest performances to date. The competition, held March 26-27, featured top high school and college students from across the state, all showcasing their technical expertise in hands-on, career-focused events.

SkillsUSA provides students the opportunity to apply what they’ve learned in the classroom in a competitive, real-world environment. Participants demonstrate technical proficiency, problem-solving abilities, and professionalism as they compete against peers from institutions across Utah.

Notably, MTECH students achieved several milestone accomplishments this year, including the college’s first gold medal in Barbering and a standout medal finish in Welding - one of the competition’s most competitive categories.

“These students truly represent the best of what technical education has to offer,” shares Clay Christensen, President of Mountainland Technical College. ‘We’re so proud of their accomplishments at the SkillsUSA competition. Their success speaks to their determination, the quality of instruction received, and the strong support systems in place at MTECH.”

The success of MTECH students highlights the college’s commitment to preparing skilled professionals who are ready to contribute to Utah’s workforce and local communities. As hometown talent, these students exemplify the value of hands-on training and the impact of career and technical education.
