The SPC Theatre department will be presenting "Greater Tuna" -September 23rd, 24th, and 25th at 7:30pm in the Helen Devitt Jones Theater as our Marathon Production (10 rehearsals or less). This will also be our first performance getting to show off both Phase 1 and 2 of our amazing renovations.
So if you have never heard of "Greater Tuna", let me tell you a little bit about this amazing play and this zany town of characters originally played by only 2 male actors.
'Greater Tuna" is the first in a series of four comedic plays (followed by "A Tuna Christmas", "Red, White and Tuna", and "Tuna Does Vegas"), each set in the fictional town of Tuna, Texas, the "third-smallest" town in the state. The series was written by Jaston Williams, Joe Sears, and Ed Howard. The plays are at once an affectionate comment on small-town, Southern life and attitudes, but also a withering satire of same. Of the four plays, Greater Tuna is the darkest in tone, as it follows the news of the death (and possible murder) of Judge Buckner who was found dead wearing a Dale Evans, cowgirl fringed, bathing suit.
This hilarious satire thrilled audiences so much, that it even became an HBO special series.
So come on down and enjoy, "Greater Tuna"!!!
Admission is free for all, but preferred seating does go to those who make reservations.
