Bucknell in Ghana SPRING 2020
Fascinated by Africa? Want to know more about Africa? What about engaging Africa by living, studying and doing your own research in an African community? Sounds like the dream education for you? Well, dream no more!
The Spring 2020 Bucknell in Ghana program provides a unique opportunity for your dream education. Bucknell University Professor John Doces will lead the program.
•The core course of the program, “The Politics of Development in West Africa: Ghana and Côte D’Ivoire”, takes a political economy approach to development in Africa. It focuses on sources of development, including internal and external factors with a specific consideration of Ghana and Côte D’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) as well as other African countries including neighbors Togo, and other African regions. Major themes of the course include long-run perspective of West African development (1400-2020); culture and development; political institutions and development; external forces including slave trade (Atlantic and Arab) and colonialism. Compare the impact of colonialism on an Anglophone vs. a Francophone African country. Students will also be able to participate in a research project.
•Whatever your major, you can take additional courses in many fields offered at the University of Cape Coast for a full course-load.
•This program will satisfy Bucknell Global Connections requirement.
Students will stay in student housing at the University of Cape Coast, take classes with Ghanaian students and engage the Ghanaian community through field trips, language and cultural learning. For the first time, the program will also be visiting the Côte D’Ivoire.
