Happy Monday, Bucknellians!!

With our year slowly coming to a close, we wanted to end it by showing recognition to our recent winners at the ResEd End of Year Banquet!! During this week, we will be featuring NRHH award winners, Compassion Cup winners, Underdog winners, and more.

The phrase “Go for broke” has roots in Hawaiian Pidgin, meaning “wager everything.”

Strongest research points to the 442nd Regimental Combat Team of the United States Army as the reason for this day. The 442nd RCT was a regimental size fighting unit composed mainly of American soldiers of Japanese descent. They selflessly volunteered to fight in World War II. The 442nd RCT is considered to be the most decorated infantry regiment in the history of the United States Army. “Go for Broke” was the 442nd Regimental Combat Team motto.

The story doesn’t end there, though, and the date of April 5th is significant. On that day, the first Medal of Honor recipient from this regiment died in action near Seravazza, Italy, in 1945.

As we have officially wrapped up March and our phenomenal woman initiative, there is one last beautiful human we need to show recognition to and that is THE Jackie Cetera.

Jackie created the Phenomenal Women initiative at Bucknell in March 2020 and this is the third year that it has truly blossomed and come to life. Jackie is the embodiment of women empowerment and is always looking for new ways to recognize woman not just on our campus, but across the region! Thank you, Jackie for all that you do!!
