We are so proud of Mason, and while we’ve already celebrated his graduation, we just have to highlight the incredible path he took here! Even as a psychology major, Bucknell’s liberal arts approach gave him the freedom to explore completely different passions. The Ecology Center (through the Watershed Sciences & Engineering Program) served as a great interdisciplinary resource, allowing Mason to broaden his academic horizons through hands-on environmental research. His dedication even won him The H. W. Wieder Prize for Susquehanna River Research!

Mason is now considering a different direction for his master’s degree, based on his experience with the Watershed Sciences & Engineering Program during the spring and summer of 2025. We can't wait to see what Mason will do with his future!

Mason Klotz '26 partners with Ecology Center experts to reimagine Limestone Run as a healthier ecosystem and community asset.

As we head into graduation, we want to celebrate students who have worked with us during their time at Bucknell. First up is our graduating set of Place Studies Scholars:

Hannah Tran: Curated a Milton community ecology and history exhibit and book with T.I.M.E.

Cristian Cruz: Conducted a year-long Shamokin brownfield site assessment and neighborhood reuse survey with Foraging Friends.

Thandeka Bango: Translated a complex Shamokin hydrology and flood plain study into public outreach materials with SEDA-COG.

Zane Hensal: The current longest serving Place Studies Scholar, having worked with us on various projects for 2.5 years ranging from environmental justice policy research to Kulpmont's Greenhouse Gas Inventory to drafting a thriving futures plan with our partners in Kulpmont.

We can't wait to see what these students do as they move on to their careers after Bucknell!

Need some food for thought on this Earth Day afternoon? Consider this article about the impacts of AI data centers!

For this article, Readers Digest consulted Ben Hayes (WSE Program Director, Ecology Center) as a subject matter expert.

We may have all worried about the Terminator, but AI is threatening us—and the planet—in other, more insidious ways.
