**IMPORTANT CLASS SOCIAL MEDIA NEWS**

The class of 1991 is following the lead of most Bates alumni classes and moving to a private group instead of this public page. I’m attaching a picture of the cover photo for the group so you know what it looks like. It is also called “Bates College Class of 1991.”

In a FB group, any group member can post, not just administrators. We hope that you will take this opportunity to share life updates, Bates friend gatherings and photos, and Bates-related events and happenings.

The privacy feature helps us moderate more easily—obviously, all classmates (and “bonus classmates” like spouses, grads of neighboring classes, etc) are welcome!

John Ducker will be the primary moderator for this group—thank you, John! You just request to join the group, answer an easy “security” question, and John will let you into the group. Once you are a member, invite your Bates friends to join!

See you there!

The books are closed on the Bates Fund fiscal year 2023. THANK YOU to classmates who helped us achieve our class of 1991 goal of 48% participation!

The fund overall had 40.4% alumni participation and raised a record $7.825 million, exceeding its goals of 40% participation and $7.7 million.

This annual fund is put right to work helping Bates remain a top liberal arts institution with great opportunities and experiences in and out of the classroom. Thank you!

I thought this was a great article on what to pack for northeastern colleges in general.

I remember sitting on my bedroom floor anxiously packing for college, stuffing nearly every item I owned into multi-sized suitcases. I did not have the slightest idea what I should and shouldn’t bring to Bates – what I would miss from home, and what I wouldn’t need. As a girl from Texas, short...

Is anyone else up here in Maine this week, feeling moldy from all of the rain? Enjoy this lobster roll roundup with Bates ‘88 Steve Kingston’s The Clam Shack in Kennebunkport listed first!

Chefs are serving lobster rolls beyond seafood shacks in the Northeast, though we have our favorite spots in Maine, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. Try a New England Lobster roll in Charleston, a lobster roll with Asian ingredients in Los Angeles, and Cape Cod-inspired lobster rolls in Seattle.

An opinion piece in the New York Times on affirmative action, written by a Bates professor. My apologies if this is behind a paywall.

The end of affirmative action will only cause students and parents to get even more creative about gaming college admissions.
