Emerging student filmmakers took center stage at the 2026 UKY Student Film Festival — an annual showcase celebrating creativity, storytelling and cinematic achievement across disciplines.

Held April 30 at The Kentucky Theatre, the festival welcomed hundreds of guests to a “Blue Carpet” event featuring 17 student-produced films spanning narrative, documentary, experimental and animated genres.

CI congratulates all students who submitted their work and took home awards in all categories, including media arts and studies student Sofia Ceccarello, who won for "Best Narrative Film," "Audience Choice" and "Best Writing," as well as integrated strategic communication student Cadence Gormley, who took home the award for "Best Documentary"! 🎬 🏆

Is the semester really over without one last check-in with CI PR intern (and now rising senior 🤘) Aimee Pierce?

Aimee has wrapped up her Semester at Sea voyage and joins us back in the bluegrass insanely well-traveled with lots of memories to share! In total, Aimee and her cohort learned across 11 countries and were even able to visit more places after disembarkation. Additionally, her coursework in global relations and advertising allowed Aimee to gain a deeper understanding of her field with exposure to international markets and initiatives.

We're so grateful that Aimee was able to showcase her incredible experience this semester for other students considering studying abroad opportunities! 🌎

When CI student Brayden Scott first imagined leaving his hometown of London, Kentucky, it wasn’t simply about going to college. It was about finding a place where he could be seen — and heard — for who he is.

A first-generation college student with cerebral palsy, Scott is a nonverbal communicator who navigates campus using a wheelchair. During his time at the University of Kentucky, he emerged as a storyteller, writer and editor — proving that strong journalism is built on precision, accuracy and voice, no matter how that voice is expressed.

This week, Scott will graduate from UK with a bachelor’s degree in journalism, marking a milestone shaped by resilience, self-belief and a deep connection to a campus community that became his second home.

UK graduate Brayden Scott, a nonverbal communicator, found a community and a place to amplify his voice through journalism. Scott will graduate from UK this Friday, May 8.
