⚡ The FabLab Laser Lab has officially upgraded its fleet.

We now have six OneLaser Cobra 10 laser cutters fully installed and ready for student projects. These new machines are approximately three times faster than our previous lasers, making large cuts and engravings quicker and more efficient.

A few reminders before you book:
📅 All laser time must be reserved through EMS
⚡ Walk-ins are welcome only when a machine is available
✅ Reservations always take priority
📏 Work area: approximately 38" × 23"

The UK College of Fine Arts will soon present this year's R.C. May Photography Lecture featuring artist Clarissa Tossin, and the UK College of Design is proud to serve as a 2026 co-sponsor. The lecture will take place Friday, Oct. 16, at 4 p.m. in the Singletary Center Recital Hall.

Tossin's work examines the layered impacts of colonialism, resource extraction and consumer accumulation. During the lecture, she will reflect on the role of photography throughout her career, from her student work at Fundação Armando Álvares Penteado to her recent solo exhibition at the Museu de Arte São Paulo (MASP).

The R.C. May Photography Lecture Series and associated exhibitions, currently on display at the Gray Design Building and UK Art Museum, are free and open to the public.

The UK College of Design, UK Department of Landscape Architecture, Kentucky ASLA Chapter and AIA East Kentucky invite students, faculty and community members to a screening of Sitting Still on Monday, Oct. 12 at 6 p.m. in the Biagi Forum of the Gray Design Building.

The documentary explores art, architecture and urban design through the work of renowned landscape architect Laurie Olin and features contributions from leading voices in design, including Frank Gehry, Billie Tsien and Walter Hood.

⏰ The registration deadline has been extended through this weekend for the 2026 Regional Cross-Laminated Timber Conference.

For just $50, students can attend two days of programming, including speaker sessions and a bus tour of mass timber projects in Cincinnati. Attendees will hear from industry leaders, researchers and practitioners exploring the future of sustainable construction and mass timber design. Students may also be eligible for full reimbursement of their registration fee by noting their reimbursement request on the conference sign-in sheet.

There are also 2 continuing education credits available through AIA for our alums interested in attending. Note that alumni and professionals will be charged the full registration rate of $150.

🚕💙 Think you know UK? Prove it in the Swag Cab.

During Homecoming Week, Dean Crankshaw is taking the wheel for a special round of the Swag Cab on TOMORROW from noon to 1 p.m. Inspired by Cash Cab, the Swag Cab will be cruising campus, picking up students, testing their UK knowledge and handing out prizes for correct answers.

Headed to class? Flag down the cab, hop in and see if your trivia skills can earn you some Homecoming swag.
