Hear from Bella Smith, a rising senior in Family Sciences who recently attended Lighthouse Family Retreat, an organization that provides restorative retreats for families going through childhood cancer:
“Lighthouse has changed me in more ways than one. I had the opportunity to serve as a work crew intern the past 2 summers, and I served as a family partner this past week. Lighthouse provides moments of joy for families walking through the hardest moments facing childhood cancer. This organization provides hope and community for these families. We were able to celebrate everyone’s birthday, provide a space for retreat family parents to connect, provide opportunities for family time, make sure siblings of the child on treatment felt seen, and made it possible for kids to be kids for the week. Lighthouse has driven my passion to pursue Child-Life in my academic journey. I am so thankful for the opportunity to have interned and served this organization. I cannot wait to watch Lighthouse spread joy to numerous families for years to come!”
