🐴💙💚 WILDCATS WITH BIG HEARTS! 💪🐎 When Wildcats roll up their sleeves, incredible things happen! 💙

This past weekend, we had the pleasure of welcoming students from the University of Kentucky Ag Equine Programs to BraveHearts Equine Center as part of their annual Weekend of Service! 🐴💙

This special initiative brings together UK students, faculty, and staff to give back to horse rescues, nonprofits, and equine organizations throughout Central Kentucky.

And WOW, did these Wildcats get to work! 💪👏

🎨 Repainting our pasture numbers to keep our farm looking its best!

🌳 Clearing and cleaning up our trail riding trails for future visitors to enjoy!

🐴 And, of course, spending some quality time loving on our rescue and sanctuary herd! (We think that might have been everyone’s favorite assignment! 😉❤️)

At BraveHearts, there’s ALWAYS work to be done, and having extra helping hands makes a tremendous difference. But what makes days like these even more special is seeing the next generation of equine professionals giving back to the very animals who inspire their passion. 🥹❤️

A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who volunteered their time, energy, and hearts! Your hard work helps us continue giving our gentle giants the second chances they deserve.

Harnessing the Future: UK Ag Equine Programs Day at the Red Mile, an event that marked a new era of opportunities within harness racing for UK’s equine and pre-vet students interested in equine careers. During Red Mile Gaming and Racing's Kentucky Futurity Day Oct. 3, UK student attendees were shown a red-carpet experience. The day began with behind-the-scenes tours, free admission and concessions and culminated in a $5,000 scholarship check presentation from the Lexington Trots Breeders Association with presenting sponsor Woodford Feed after Race 10.

Congratulations to Dr. Ted Kalbfleisch and UK's Department of Veterinary Science on successfully hosting this prestigious conference!

The University of Kentucky Department of Veterinary Science hosted the 15th International Havemeyer Foundation Genomic Workshop Aug. 16-19.

Sponsored by the Dorothy Russell Havemeyer Foundation, the prestigious meeting is held approximately every two years in locations worldwide and brings together the world’s leading researchers to collaborate on equine genetics and genomics work. The series began in 1995 with a meeting in Lexington and made a return to Kentucky in 2026.

According to Dr. Ted Kalbfleisch, a faculty member at the Gluck Center and event lead, 80 scientists participated in the workshop, with delegates traveling from Europe, Australia, Japan, Colombia, as well as from across the U.S. The meeting featured four workshops, three plenary lectures, 18 short talks and 59 posters. The challenges addressed included the need for better tools to represent the diversity of genomic organization, a gene expression in tissues along with the application of existing and future tools to investigate performance and reproduction in horses.

Thank you to all of the employers who joined us for our annual Kentucky Signature Industries Career Fair last week! More than 400 job seekers representing 58 majors, eight universities and 11 different UK colleges were on hand to talk with those employers.

We were saddened to hear about the passing of legend Dr. Tom Riddle over the weekend. Dr. Riddle was one of the very first people on our advisory board and he was instrumental in the framework of our program from early on. He served as a trusted advisor over the years and as our advisory board chair for several of those. He was named Friend of UK Ag Equine Programs in 2017. A legend in equine veterinary medicine, he not only positively impacted so many horses in his career, he also impacted so many of our students. He led with a quiet kindness and we are all better for his presence in our lives. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his cherished family, friends and colleagues.
