Marshall Wilt ’26 majored in Mathematics and minored in Data science at W&L, and now she is working in wealth management at J.P. Morgan Private Bank in Atlanta.

“The Williams Investment Society (WIS) and the Executive Committee (EC) have been two of the most formative parts of my time at W&L. Since freshman year, WIS has pushed me to become a more confident presenter and given me a hands-on way to explore finance alongside my math major. The other students in WIS shaped my experience as much as anything and ultimately helped me to better understand both investing and what I wanted to pursue after W&L. Serving on the Executive Committee this past year has been one of my most rewarding experiences at W&L. Getting a peek behind the curtain of what makes this school run gave me a genuine appreciation for all the hard work that often goes unnoticed but is essential to making W&L what it is. We had a fantastic group on the EC, and I have learned just as much from my peers through that experience as I have in any classroom.”

Science. Finance. Curiosity. At W&L, you don't have to choose.

Most universities ask students to pick a lane. Washington and Lee invites them to explore. For Bryn Gonzales '28, that philosophy made all the difference.

A liberal arts education doesn't limit students — it expands their minds And the world needs graduates who can think across disciplines, ask hard questions and engage with complexity.

This past academic year, Luke Davis ’28 created an independent study project centered around his passion for education and advocacy.

Davis worked with Haley Sigler, associate professor of education and director of W&L’s Education Studies Program. Their research, titled “Federal Education Cuts and Southwest Virginia’s Future,” examined the potential impact of federal education cuts on Southwest Virginia, with a particular focus on TRIO, a suite of federally funded programs born out of the War on Poverty that includes Upward Bound.

Devlin Daugherty ’26 majored in Cognitive and behavioral science at W&L, and this fall he will be attending graduate school at James Madison University to study occupational therapy.

“Working with Brittany Carr, the pre-health adviser, was crucial through the process of identifying and completing pre-requisites for my intended program and navigating the application process. Her commitment to me and her other advisees was incredible as we met regularly to stay on track with deadlines, create personal statements, prepare for interviews and so much more. I truly cannot imagine figuring it all out on my own and am incredibly grateful for her support.”
