OH THE MANIA! The carving! The horses! The costumes! The PUMPKINS! PumpkinMania on Sunday was a blast. The Transy community and the Lexington community came together to create the most amazing pumpkin display. Want to go to the glow? Check it out nightly until the 29th.

There’s a certain point in October when you know it’s time for Pumpkinmania. The pumpkins arrive at Transy, the days get shorter, and before long, you’re walking past campus after dark just to see them all lit up.

It’s a little bit of Halloween magic, a little bit of Lexington tradition, and one of those things that brings people back year after year. Families grow. Kids get bigger. New people discover it. And somehow, there are always more pumpkins to see. ❤️

So, come hang out with us!

Pumpkinmania is this Sunday, Oct. 25, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. And if you can’t make it during the day, the glowing pumpkin display will be here nightly through Oct. 29.

Bring the kids, bring a friend, take approximately 47 pictures of pumpkins, or just wander around and enjoy it. Whether you’ve been coming for years or have never made it before, you’re part of the Lexington community we love celebrating with.

College application deadlines can sneak up on families faster than a ghost on Halloween!

If Transylvania University is on your student’s college list, here’s a date to keep in mind: October 31 is the deadline for both Early Action I and Early Decision.

The good news? Applying is free, and students still have time to take that next step.

Early Action offers priority consideration for admission and scholarships, while allowing students to keep exploring their college options.

Early Decision is for students who are confident Transy is their first choice. It offers priority review and an early admission decision, but it is binding if the student is admitted.

Every student’s college journey looks a little different, and figuring out the next step doesn’t have to be scary. We’re here to help your family navigate the process.

It wouldn’t be October at Transy without PumpkinMania. 🎃 Every year, those jack-o’-lanterns light up Old Morrison, students, community members, families wander through campus, and we get to see familiar faces alongside people experiencing it all for the first time. Some folks have been coming for years. Some came as kids and now bring their own. And somehow, it gets a little more fabulous every time.

Come see what it’s all about. We’d love to have you.

The best measure of a life in education is often found in the people who carry its influence with them long after they leave the classroom. ❤️

The Transylvania community remembers James G. “Jay” Moseley, who served as vice president for academic affairs, dean of the college and professor of religion from 1991 to 2002.

Jay believed deeply in the power of a liberal arts education, but what mattered most to him was seeing students grow, find their way and succeed. Through his leadership, his teaching and the relationships he built with students and colleagues, he left a lasting mark on Transy and on generations of Pioneers.

We are grateful for all Jay gave to this university and the many lives he touched along the way. Our thoughts are with all who knew and loved him.

We loved welcoming Bryan Station High School’s Mariachi Band — the first high school mariachi band in Kentucky — to campus for a celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.

The Lula Morton Drewes Center sponsored the mariachi performance and lunch-and-learn, featuring Professor Eric Estrada Valadez sharing the history of mariachi.

And we’re not done celebrating! Religious Life is sponsoring a campus ofrenda for Día de los Mu***os, on display October 30–November 2 in the Campus Center Lobby. The ofrenda honors the lives and memories of loved ones who have passed, and everyone is welcome to participate.

At Transy, learning means more than what happens in a classroom. It’s about listening to one another, sharing traditions and making room for the many cultures and stories that shape our campus.

Turns out, “professor” can mean a lot of things at Transy.

Scott Whiddon just published a book on helping students become stronger writers — building on his work with Transy’s award-winning Course-Embedded Consultant program. He also recently released an album. Because apparently, one kind of creative expression just isn’t enough!

Meanwhile, art professor Kurt Gohde is in Romania as a Fulbright scholar, hand-carving wooden coffee spoons inspired by historical figures that locals would most like to sit down and have a cup of coffee with. He’s even finding trees connected to their lives to bring each spoon’s story to life.

Different disciplines, different corners of the world, and two very Transy professors following their curiosity wherever it takes them.
