The Nebraska Department of Transportation and the University of Nebraska came together on July 13 at NDOT Headquarters to strengthen partnerships and explore future research opportunities.

The day featured welcome remarks from NDOT Deputy Director–Engineering Mick Syslo, a NDOT research program overview from Mark Fischer, faculty presentations highlighting transportation research underway at the University of Nebraska, and NDOT division overviews focused on current challenges and research needs.

The event concluded with a networking lunch where researchers and NDOT staff connected to discuss future collaboration and innovation for Nebraska's transportation system.

Tracks to the Future concluded with a panel discussion featuring transportation professionals from federal, state, and private-sector organizations.

Moderated by Dr. Nathan Huynh, Director of the Nebraska Transportation Center, the panel included Chris Talley (Olsson), Stephanie Camerone (Nebraska Department of Transportation), Paul Vidmar (Benesch), Steven Clark (Federal Railroad Administration), Richard Luebbers, and Diane Jones (Union Pacific Railroad).

Panelists shared their career journeys, discussed their roles within the transportation industry, and answered students' questions about education, career pathways, and the future of rail transportation.

We were excited to welcome Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) participants to the Nebraska Transportation Center for the course, "Moving Transportation in Nebraska and Beyond!"

Attendees learned about transportation engineering, emerging technologies, and transportation research from Dr. Nathan Huynh, Dr. Richard Wood, Dr. Hongfeng Yu, and MwRSF's Dr. Ronald Faller.
