The Department of Biological Systems Engineering offers degrees and research programs within biological systems engineering, agricultural engineering, and agricultural systems technology. The Department of Biological Systems Engineering shares the roles as a Land Grant Institution and a member of the Association of American Universities with missions in teaching, research, extension, and service.

The department is uniquely situated in both the College of Engineering and the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources (IANR) through the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources (CASNR). Its connectivity with other academic units through joint faculty appointments, and having faculty at research and extension centers throughout Nebraska, is a source of strength and support for our departmental missions.

Come and discover the research findings for improved crop production and profitability at the South Central Ag Lab Field Day, Aug 11, at the South Central Agricultural Laboratory, Clay Center, NE. Dr. Salvador Ramirez II, an Agroecosystem Management Research Associate with USDA-ARS in Lincoln, NE and a UNL Doctor of Plant Health Graduate will present, "Soil Organic Carbon Dynamics Under Stacked Management Practices in Irrigated, Continuous Corn".

“Agricultural technology needs the best minds in the world — and the best minds in the world need an opportunity." -Helmut Claas.

In cooperation with the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, a top-ranked university for agricultural engineering in the United States, the CLAAS Foundation, based in Harsewinkel, Germany, will launch the Helmut Claas Scholarship to support undergraduate students majoring in agricultural engineering or agricultural systems technology at the university.

In addition, the CLAAS Foundation has established a fund to support students in the Department of Biological Systems Engineering participating in a short-term study abroad program offered in collaboration with the OsnabrĂĽck University of Applied Sciences in Germany.
